2020 was the year we never expected. I remember the excitement around New Years last year. “New Year, New Me” was replaced by “New Decade, New Me.” Everyone saw 2020 as a year of positive change and new beginnings. But then the calendar rolled around to January 1st and everything seemed to hit the fan very suddenly. However, despite the fear and anxiety that lingered in the air for most of 2020 following unprecedented circumstances, this year also prompted significant changes within me. I found lessons in unexpected places, and thought I am ending this year with a strange feeling (a sad reflectiveness, I would say), I know I have grown so much as a person.

  1. There is something good to be found in every day. Gratitude is power.
  2. Rejection is redirection.
  3. You create your own reality.
  4. Negative thoughts are powerful. Positive thoughts are even more so. Choose the right frame of mind.
  5. The energy you put out will circle back to you.
  6. Some people aren’t meant to be in your life forever. It’s okay to learn from them and let them go when the time is right.
  7. If it’s meant to be, it will be.
  8. It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to feel everything: the bad, the sad, the mad.
  9. I am deserving of self love and kindness. I don’t have to earn the right to do what’s right for me in the moment.
  10. It’s worth it to be proactive in pursuing your passions. Figure out what you hope to gain from life and go after it.
  11. Confidence shines from the inside out. When in doubt, be confident in yourself.
  12. Appreciate simplicity and slowness. Business does always not equate to happiness.
  13. Embrace your curiosity and love of learning. It’s a valuable trait, especially if it makes you happy.
  14. Choose kindness no matter what. Everyone is fighting their own unspoken battles.
  15. Don’t let failure shut you down. Learn from it.
  16. You don’t have to please everyone. Are you happy with who you are and where you are? That is most important.
  17. Learn to love the process. Your destination may change throughout the journey, so no matter the end goal, fall in love with every part of creating the life you want.
  18. Don’t be afraid to accept help from others. Don’t shy away from their love. You don’t have to do everything alone.
  19. Think about your best self. What would he/she do/say/think in this situation? Act accordingly.
  20. This is it. This is your life. You have one life and it’s happening right now so make it count. Take a risk. Seek what brings you joy. Live.
